Factories for the production of knives. Equipment for the production of knives

Hunting is a paradoxical activity. Here, age-old classics are perfectly combined with modernity, and practicality with the delights of art. While hunting you can see an old Tula trigger gun, a new semi-automatic, a budget gun in black plastic, and a one-piece gun whose price is comparable to the cost of an apartment. So the knives used here are very different: some will choose a knife that is simple in appearance without carvings or engravings, while others will carry an exclusive handmade knife in a sheath.

Therefore, let's focus on what's inside - the materials. There is a wide choice of knives; each has its own pros and cons.

Perhaps the most democratic option is carbon steels: they are inexpensive, easy to heat treat, durable, and hold an edge well. By adding chromium to the alloy, we reliably protect the knife from the harmful effects of moisture. Here, one of the best budget alloys is 95X18 and its American analogues 440D/440C. They hold an edge well and are durable, which is why they are very popular.

On sale you can also find knives made from tool steels, originally developed for cutting tools (drills, taps, dies). Their advantage is the ability to obtain high hardness, but that is why they are sensitive to heat treatment conditions: if you make a mistake, it is easy to get an overheated knife that will quickly crumble along the edge, and it will be very difficult to sharpen by hand. When bent, such a knife will break completely. And finally, the developers of tool steels were not particularly concerned about the corrosion resistance - but rust on a knife is inappropriate. You should not take such a knife for hunting or fishing.

For the same reason Damascus And damask steel, despite the romantic flair around these words, also have certain disadvantages. They need careful care, because the textured surface makes it easier for water to penetrate microcracks. Cheap Damascus, poorly forged, can quickly begin to crack and crumble. On the other hand, modern metallurgy has made it possible to create Damascus steel that is not susceptible to rust, and even to produce such steel industrially - such as, for example, Swedish Damasteel: one of its varieties is designed for the manufacture of firearm barrels, and there the requirements for the strength of the alloy are much higher than in production knives. And laminated Damascus is well protected from chipping of the cutting edge - such knives cut with a homogeneous plate made of high-carbon steel, and Damascus “linings” serve only aesthetic purposes.

The information coverage of this exhibition by its organizers leaves much to be desired. The results of the competitions are quite easy to find out, but they are not accompanied by any images. Finding such images presents certain difficulties: the author’s last name may not be indicated, knife makers may have several versions of knives with the same name, the stands of companies or craftsmen were not presented at the exhibition, and there is no information about them on the Internet. Below are the official results of these competitions for the best knife products, supplemented by images of knives and knife compositions. If an image of the winning knife cannot be found, then one of the author's knives is shown to give a general idea of his work.

The images are accompanied by legend:

1 – knife corresponding to the name in the results report;

2 – one of the knife options with the name specified in the protocol (the manufacturer has several knife options);

3 – one of the knives of the master, whose knife won the competition.

A knife is the oldest cutting tool. Despite its centuries-old history, its appearance has remained almost unchanged. The basis is still the blade and the handle. At the same time, the scope of application of the tools is varied: housekeeping, hunting, fishing. Therefore, the business related to the production of knives will always be relevant.

Business concept

The business idea is related to the opening of an enterprise for the production of knives of various shapes and purposes. The main buyers will be individuals purchasing household appliances, as well as fishing, hunting and other stores.

Production always starts with a blank. You can make it yourself or buy it ready-made. After the type of future knife is determined, steel is selected, and a pattern is made from a piece of metal.

But first, the source material is put under a roller weighing 80 tons. The result is a flattened plate on which the contours of the workpiece are traced. Steel for production is sold in sheet form.

After this, the workpiece goes through the stages of drilling, a hole is cut in it to attach the handle. The blade is then heat treated. The resulting shape is polished and pre-turned. At the final stage of blade manufacturing, polishing is carried out.

In addition to the blade, the knife also consists of a handle. The cheapest material used to make handles is plastic. But wood is considered traditional, although more expensive. Which specific material to choose depends on the quality of the finished product. For example, wood goes well with metal. But this does not mean that a plastic handle can only be found on cheap items.

At the last stage, the knife undergoes final processing, is packaged, transferred to a warehouse for storage or directly to the point of sale.

The quality of the final product depends entirely on compliance with the technological process.

What will be required for implementation?

First of all, you need to decide on the type of knives that will be manufactured at the enterprises. For example, it makes no sense to master the technology for producing collectible knives at the initial stage of business development, since it will take a long time to find buyers for such products. But kitchen knives and hunting cleavers will find use among consumers and will be purchased.

  • grinder with discs;
  • drill or screwdriver;
  • grinder;
  • engraver with different attachments;
  • grinder (grinding machine);
  • electric jigsaw;
  • band-saw.

As for the raw materials, for example, to make traditional kitchen knives, you need steel with a hardness of 48-50 HRC. If hunting is done, then this indicator should be higher. During operation, the knife should not lose its original shape, should not rust from detergents or other household products, should be well sharpened, etc. The strongest and most frequently used steel grades are CPM, S30V, 154 CM.

As for handles, you can buy a special line for their production or order ready-made handles from other manufacturers. When starting a business, it is more profitable to purchase ready-made equipment. And the technology for independent production of handles can be mastered a little later, when the company begins to achieve self-sufficiency and make a profit.

Step-by-step launch instructions

  1. Registration. Before starting a business, register with the tax authorities and obtain the status of an individual entrepreneur. OKVED code 28.6 “Production of cutlery and cutlery.”
  2. Room. Despite the fact that a knife is a fairly compact tool, its manufacture requires a large number of different machines and devices. To place all the equipment, you will need to rent a room with an area of at least 60 m². The work involved in making knives is very noisy, so don't try to rent a room in the basement of a multi-story building. It's better to look for a place on the outskirts of the village. Rent is cheaper there too.
  3. Equipment and materials. Equipment costs will be about 82,000 rubles. Of these: Bulgarian – 10,000 rubles; drill – 5,000 rub.; sharpening machine - 20,000 rubles; engraver – 12,000 rubles; grinder – 18,000 rub.; jigsaw – 7,000 rub.; band saw – 10,000 rub. It is better to purchase steel from the manufacturer in bulk. It's much more profitable this way. First, decide on the grades of steel that are needed for production. After that, find several suppliers, compare prices, conditions and product quality. Only make a choice based on all these criteria. The same applies to the materials that will be used in the manufacture of handles. To purchase raw materials you will need about 50,000 rubles in the first month of work (the cheapest workpiece will cost about 500 rubles, the expensive one - from 5,000 or more; handles - from 300 to 2,500 rubles). Purchase material with a supply of 2-3 months.
  4. Staff. To work in a small workshop, it is enough to hire two craftsmen who have skills in working with all of the above tools. The manager can conduct accounting independently, or use the services of a visiting accountant, concluding agreements for the provision of professional services by a specialist at the end of the reporting period.
  5. Advertising. Before starting a knife manufacturing enterprise, you need to know exactly who the end consumers of the goods will be: housewives, professional chefs, hunters, fishermen, etc. The best source of attracting customers and sales will be an online store. Firstly, you won’t have to spend money on renting additional premises or furnishing them. Secondly, you will not need to look for large wholesale buyers, running around the city and without getting off your phone. You can even organize advertising via the Internet. Pay attention to various thematic communities on cooking, hunting and other topics where knives can be discussed.

Financial calculations

Start-up capital

Monthly expenses

How much can you earn?

In a month, the company can produce up to 100 pieces of products. The average cost of one knife ranges from 1,500 to 2,500 rubles. At the same time, its cost will not exceed 800-900 rubles. Consequently, from one unit of goods you can earn up to 600 - 1,500 rubles (net profit about 80,000 rubles).

Payback period

The profitability of such production will actually be high (about 45%), and the return on the initial investment will not exceed 4-5 months.

Business Features

The main risk this business faces is related to fairly high competition. Today, many craftsmen are engaged in similar activities at home. They don't pay taxes, but they make a good income selling homemade knives. Companies engaged in mass production of cutlasses for the kitchen, hunting, etc. also compete.

Conclusion

To bring the enterprise to a decent level, it will be necessary to produce only high-quality products. Every customer must be satisfied.

Despite possible difficulties, the production of knives is a profitable business that will quickly pay for itself and begin to generate a stable profit. After the return on investment, it is worth thinking about expanding the workshop, scaling up production, and making it serial.

In Zlatoust, there are only more than 25 official knife manufacturers. Among them there are such giants as “AiR”, “Zlatko”, “ZZOSS” and “ROSoruzhie”, which produce knives on an industrial scale, but there are knife companies that produce knives in small batches, while paying special attention to build quality and the use of premium materials in the designs of their products. In this section we will introduce you to the knife factories of Zlatoust, the products they produce and the features of the products of a particular manufacturer.

It’s wonderful when your region is rich in history and has an outstanding cultural heritage, like, for example, Zlatoust - one of the centers for the production of Russian decorated weapons. However, there is also a second side to the coin: with such a generous past and no less bright present, it is difficult for a knife manufacturer to stand out and show itself. Should we continue to exploit the legend of Bushuev’s winged horse, call ourselves a successor to Anosov’s tradition, or go our own way?

27.12.2017 964

Zlatoust knives are a kind of Russian brand, our pride and glory. Today in the city many companies and factories are engaged in the production of high-quality knives with high artistic value. But if it were necessary, for example, to clearly identify the direct heir of the Zlatoust knife tradition, then, of course, it would be the Zlatoust Arms Factory, which dates back 200 years from the moment of its creation.

22.12.2017 1075

In Zlatoust, more than 70 weapons enterprises consider themselves to be continuers of the work of Bushuev and Anosov. But not all of them were able to bring production to a competitive market level and ring their cool knives throughout Russia and abroad. The Zlatoust arms company succeeded. Largely due to the fact that the company relied on modern technologies and materials, but did not abandon the ancient traditions of decorating ceremonial weapons. ZOK knives in Zlatoust is a brand, a clear and clear name, reminiscent of the sound of crossed sabers.

20.12.2017 836

Initially, eleven years ago, experienced gunsmiths united under the Batyr™ brand to produce blades with excellent characteristics for knife companies. Subsequently, it was decided to create a full cycle of knife production - from the production of steel blades to the decoration of ceremonial weapons. And everything worked out. Today Batyr LLC produces knives that are known far beyond the borders of Zlatoust. Masters participate in All-Russian exhibitions and constantly replenish their collection of working and decorated weapons.

18.12.2017 1036

“ROSoruzhie” - “Russian Society of Specialized Weapons” is a Zlatoust enterprise, on the one hand, which has been operating since 2002. And on the other hand, it preserves and promotes the traditional, centuries-old heritage of Zlatoust craftsmen.

15.12.2017 969

The Oruzheynik™ factory crystallized from the Zlatoust workshop “Art-Grani”, famous throughout Russia. The separation into a separate enterprise dealing exclusively with knives was done on purpose. And mainly in order to revive and continue the glorious weapons traditions of Chrysostom. The company is proud that its workshops employ representatives of famous weapons dynasties, craftsmen with ringing Ural surnames that were famous back in the days of Anosov.

13.12.2017 728

Among knife manufacturers, the Zlatoust Specialized Weapons Steel Plant stands apart for a number of reasons. The main one is that it has its own scientific base for the development of composite alloys and steels, as well as its own foundry. It turns out perfect: we developed the formula, produced the steel, forged the knife, decorated it in our own art workshop - everything for ourselves and our client, with quality control at every stage.

11.12.2017 1127

“Zlatoust Named Blades” is a company that, just over a year ago, loudly announced itself with bright models of interesting knives. I will immediately note that the enterprise is not the successor to the legendary “ZIK” - “Zlatoust Tool Plant named after Lenin”, which functioned during the Soviet years. This is a completely new production that has chosen its original path.
